More Key Poker Terms 4

2011 January 11
Posted by realpokereducation

Hello and thanks for coming by. Today I will list more terms that will help you to succeed on money poker sites. I have to say that I am really liking this alphabetical theme a lot. At the very least it prevents me from pulling my hair out as I try to decide which terms to choose since there are so many.

The first term I will define is ICM, which is an acronym for Independent Chip Model. If you enjoy sit & gos on a Full Tilt Poker download, ICM is incredibly important. When there are less than 10 players remaining in a tourney, ICM gives your chips a cash value and helps you make optimal decisions.

The letter J does not have a lot of variety when it comes to poker terms, so I will just quickly define “jam”. If you get your hands on some free poker training and the instructor recommends that you jam, he is saying to go all-in. It is interchangeable with the terms “shove” and “push”.

The next word I will mention is “kill”. If you decide not to download Roulette in favor of poker at the local brick-and-mortar, you can choose to play a kill game. When someone wins two pots in a row, they are required to pay an extra blind the next hand. A full kill is twice the size of the big blind while a half kill is 1.5 times the big blind. Passive players that lose a lot of money on poker flash sites might like kill tables since they can stifle hyper-aggression.

When someone raises or calls “light”, they are representing a much stronger hand than the one they actually have. Imagine that you are playing on Tiger Gaming and you get dealt 86 in the blinds. Someone with a high steal percentage pops it up on the button, and you make a 3-bet because you assume he is usually relatively weak in this situation. He is probably raising light in his position, and you are 3-betting light in return. You should encounter these types of hands often on poker sites.

Well that was my last term for this entry. Next month I will get started again with the letter M. This gives you plenty of time to practice your game.

Important Phrases Version 3

This article will go on with poker terms you might want to know when you download money poker sites. Last time I left off at the letter E.

Whether you play ring games or tournaments on Ultimate Bet for Mac, “effective stacks” is a word that comes into play very often. When two players are in a pot, the maximum either of them can bet is the amount that the shorter stack has. The shorter stack is the effective stack. If you have 3,400 chips and your opponent has 2,200, the effective stack is 2,200.

The next term I would like to describe is “flip”, something that can occur when friends get together for friendly games on a Lucky Ace Poker download. If you decide to participate in a flip, you must push your entire stack in with any two cards that you are dealt. The term flip also has another definition: a “coin flip” is when you have 50/50 odds in a hand. For example, if you play MTT poker and you get it all-in preflop with QQ vs AK, this is referred to as a flip because you are around 50% to win the hand.

I picked “gutshot” as my G phrase. When you are drawing to a straight with 4 outs, it is known as a gutshot straight draw. For instance, if you take a break from Craps online and get dealt 78 in a ring game, you might feel frisky and decide to play it. You open limp on the button and you get A46 on the flop. You have a gutshot since there is only one card that can come to make your hand, which is four outs. The word gutshot is interchangeable with “inside straight draw”.

You might have heard people talk about their “hero fold”, which is our H term. When you make you a hero fold, you are making a difficult fold with a relatively strong hand. Imagine that you are playing on your Everest Poker download and you are against a passive player that never raises. You get dealt 22 and flop bottom set on an uncoordinated board, but instead of just calling your bet, your passive opponent raises. Laying this hand down to one raise is a good example of a hero fold. It may seem nitty, but unlike many other games, poker requires a lot of discipline and sometimes tough decisions are necessary.

That is my last term for this entry, but I will be sure to continue on when I update this blog next month. This gives you plenty of time to play a bunch of poker. PokerStars is a good choice if you are looking to sign up with a new site. Un millón de dólares garantizados, todos los domingos. Más de 100,000 jugadores conectados. Los mejores jugadores profesionales de póquer. No esperes más para descargar PokerStars.

Key Poker Terms 2

A few months ago I wrote about some important poker terms that you should know when you read up on strategy for winning on money poker sites. For the next few months, I would like to go over a few new poker dictionary entries. To make it fun (for myself), I will go in order through the alphabet and explain one dictionary entry for each letter. Let’s go! I hope you are as excited as I am ;)

For my very first word, let’s take a look at the word “ante”. You will want to know about this word for sure if you play tournaments on a PartyPoker bonus code. If there is an ante present, all players must pay a predetermined amount before the cards are dealt. The ante is usually around 10% of the big blind, although the amount varies.

If you have already played a bunch of poker hands, you will probably already know what a “bluff” is. Bluffing means to represent a strong hand (that you don’t actually have) in order to make your opponents fold. If you ever download Full Tilt Poker and watch the high stakes tables, you will probably see some great bluffs being made.

For the letter C, here is a something that many of the best online poker sites watch out for in their security departments: chip dumping. Chip dumping occurs when someone intentionally loses their chips to someone else. People will do this to share chips in a tournament, for example, and it is an excellent way for criminals to launder illegally obtained cash. It should now be clear why US poker sites always have a security team looking out for suspicious betting patterns on the virtual felt.

When you are getting free poker training, you will probably read about “dirty outs” every so often. You have a situation of dirty outs when cards that improve your hand improve an opponent’s hand even more. For instance, imagine you are playing cash games on Tiger Gaming and you have a straight draw on a flop with 2 hearts. If you turn your straight with a card that is a heart, this could be a dirty out since someone may have also made a flush.

I am going to stop here, but I will be back sometime in October. Before the next time we meet, it might be fun to try a Bwin Poker download. Take care!

Become a SnG Grinder

This entry is going to tell you about a training website that gives strategy for Sit-N-Go (SNG) tourneys on money poker sites. SNGs are tournaments that start with a predetermined number of people rather than at a predetermined time. For instance, you can register for a one table SNG, and the tournament will start once a total of nine people register. SNGs can be as small as two people and as large as a couple hundred people. The room you frequent the most should offer SNGs, even if it is a smaller European or Mac poker site.

SitnGoGrinders.com focuses on SNG play. Since SNGs have a predetermined number of entrants, they have special payout structures and therefore special strategy. SitnGo Grinders has a wealth of SNG information on their site including articles and videos, and the people that make the videos or write the articles have had great success with poker. This site does not offer free poker training, but it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to join the site, either. They have chosen to avoid registration fees, and you’ll pay around $20/month for a short term membership. If you’re thinking long term, you should think about signing up for the entire year because $129 will give you access for a full year and then each month after that is just $10.

SitnGo Grinders is a relatively new training site, so their video catalog hasn’t reached the size of some of the best online poker training sites. They are currently releasing around a video per day, so their video selection will continue to grow. I doubt you’ll be disappointed with the selection right off the bat, anyway. 6 max and multi-table SNGs played on top Texas Holdem sites have hundreds of videos to their name. Full ring and heads-up games have around 100 videos each, which should still keep you busy for a long time.

A large percentage of the coaches play on a PokerStars download. These players chose this site because of the bonuses and VIP program, and almost all of them have earned either Supernova or Supernova Elite status. These statuses show that they are true grinders of the game, hence the name of the site! This site is an excellent choice for beginner players, but seasoned players will also benefit as there are some videos that have a lot of upper level thinking.

If you play mostly ring games on your Titanpoker download, you will not find anything useful on this site. There aren’t any regular multi-table tournament videos either, although you might find that SNGs are useful for learning MTT endgame. Despite the fact you’ll need to go elsewhere to learn other games, it’s still an excellent site given its prices. If you’re a SNG player on US friendly poker sites, it’s safe to say that you’ll greatly benefit from the in depth strategy that they offer.

Improve at Poker with Poker Pwnage

The last two entries have introduced 2 training sites that focus on ring games on money poker sites, so today I thought I’d talk about a site that creates videos for multi and single table tournaments. Poker Pwnage came out relatively recently, and their main goal is to turn out poker videos for tournament players on sites where you can download free poker. You’ll pay a $35 activation and then around $25 per month for a membership. Comparing it to the sites from the previous entries, it’s cheaper than Cardrunners but more expensive than GrinderSchool.

If you play the tournaments on a Bwin Poker download but you keep having to reload, Poker Pwnage might benefit you a lot. Their catalogue contains over 300 online poker videos, and they were made by a number of skillful multi-table tournament poker players. In fact, a couple of the instructors did quite well in WSOP 2010. Adrian “Chardrian” Dresel-Velasquez cashed for $43,000 in a Limit event and David “GhettoFabolous” Randall cashed for $270,000 in a No Limit event.

If you don’t really like MTT poker and you’re more of a Sit-N-Go player after using a Titanpoker bonus code, you should also find something to take out of Poker Pwnage. The instructors play stakes between $10 and $100, and you’ll get to choose from standard full ring, short handed, and heads-up. There’s a lot of stuff covering basic strategy, but the site also offers some out-of-the-box thinking since US friendly poker sites are not easy to beat sometimes. Even if you’ve been playing since the Moneymaker boom, you’ll still learn a few things from these videos.

You will not find a lot of videos for cash games, so you shouldn’t bother with this site if you specialize in Daniels Room poker. They have a mere 5 cash game videos as of today, and I doubt another one is coming anytime soon. If you’re mostly a Stud player after using your PokerStars marketing codes, you won’t be happy with this site, either. They feature strictly Hold Em, and it doesn’t look like they plan to change this anytime soon.

It’s a refreshing change to come across a site that focuses on tournament play, so most people won’t criticize their lack of cash strategy. When you stream the videos, you can be certain that the guidance you will get is capable of turning you into a winning player. After you’ve gone through the video catalog, I hope that you won’t find yourself making an additional deposit on your Everest Poker download ever again!

Improve at Poker with Cardrunners

Last time I wrote about GrinderSchool, a training site that develops poker videos for inexperienced players trying money poker sites. Today’s article will tell you about Cardrunners, likely the most well known and respected training site on the internet these days. It was developed by Taylor Caby and Andrew Wiggins, and since 2008 they’ve been partnered with the Full Tilt download. The site contains a large variety of online poker videos for almost any buy-in you want to learn about.

Signing up with Cardrunners will give you access to a limited amount of free poker training, but it’ll be necessary to pay a membership fee to view the best content. You might not like the fees if you still have a small bankroll because first there is a $100 sign up fee, and then you must pay $30 per month to keep accessing the site. Serious players on an Everest Poker download will find that these fees are actually a bargain given what’s received in return. Today there are more than 1800 videos available for your viewing pleasure, and every week at least seven more are released.

Like a lot of the sites out there, Cardrunners specializes in cash games. They have an excellent choice of 6-max videos on top Texas Hold’em sites due to popular demand, and their No Limit Holdem Full Ring selection has widened when compared with a year or two ago. If you prefer Heads-Up or Limit games, your video selection is also quite good.

If you’re a Sit-N-Go player or if you prefer tournaments on poker flash, Cardrunners won’t be the number one choice since their specialty is definitely cash games. That’s not to say they don’t have a lot of tournament videos because they have plenty, and they range from low to nosebleed stakes. If you play a mix of cash and tournaments, Cardrunners is the best way to go as they still offer a lot of videos for MTTs and SNGs to compliment their excellent ring game choices.

If you need some Omaha videos to help you clear your PokerStars bonus code, Cardrunners has some of the highest quality videos out of all the sites today. You’ll find it’s the same for other types of poker like HORSE or Stud. You might be slightly disappointed with your choices if Omaha is your game of choice, but Cardrunners does a lot better for these games than any of the other sites on the internet right now.

Once you’ve gotten some good practice with free poker no downloads, Cardrunners is a great way to go if you are okay with paying for some high quality poker videos. It is undeniably the number one way to go for ring game enthusiasts, and if you become interested in tournaments, they will also help you out there. To sum it up, you can’t go wrong with putting your money into a Cardrunners membership.

Improve at Poker with GrinderSchool

Let’s briefly go back in time a few weeks: I talked about a number of important poker tools that should help you improve your game on money poker sites. We learned that you should try using a hand converter, always use bankroll management, and try to keep a poker odds table at your desk. I also explained that it’s a good idea to find some free poker videos since they really help you to learn the game, and they are free poker training which means that  nothing comes out of your pocket. If you’ve already gone and downloaded every free video that you can find, though, you might be wondering what’s next. Most players will have earned a couple bucks at the tables by now, and the next step is to invest some of this profit on some more advanced videos. Over the next couple months, I will feature a few of the poker training sites that you can sign up for if you think that videos are the best way for you to learn.

The first training site I’ll look at is GrinderSchool as it targets low stakes players. A subscription starts at $10/month, and you are allowed access to 600+ online poker videos by those that have the results to show they beat the games in US poker sites. They feature 7 videos every week, and while most of them feature No Limit Hold Em, usually 4 each month are either Pot Limit Omaha or mixed game videos.

Players that focus on No Limit Hold Em ring games on Tiger Gaming (or any other site) have a lot to gain from GrinderSchool. The site has several 6 max and full ring poker videos, and there are a variety of stakes to choose from. There’s less selection when it comes to Limit or Heads-up play, however. The site features a few heads-up and Limit videos, but it might not be sufficient for players that play only these types of poker. Unfortunately, the same thing applies to those that are looking for strategy tips for Omaha or other less popular poker games like Stud.

Have you tried Rush Poker tournaments on your Fulltiltpoker download yet? Even if you don’t like cash games, GrinderSchool can still help you out. There is a good selection of tournament videos as well, and most of them are by some really excellent players. The videos show buy-ins that start as low as $2 and go all the way up to $55, and a majority of them are part of a series. Those that have the goal to play outside of their bankrolls can also watch the instructors win some satellites.

If you dislike multi-table tournaments but enjoy Sit-N-Go’s on your PokerStars download, you’ll find some quality advice on GrinderSchool. You’ll find that a large percentage of the SNG videos were made by the site’s owner, but they recently hired a couple new top notch instructors. The videos show buy-ins between $1 and $33, and while beginner concepts are brought up quite often, there is also a fair amount of more advanced discussion.

I give a big thumbs up to GrinderSchool as a site for beginner players trying the best US poker sites. There is no sign up fee, and the monthly cost is very low to suit those with small bankrolls. If you’re looking for mixed games, you are better off elsewhere, but if you’re a low stakes No Limit Hold Em player, this is the training site for you.

Key Poker Terms

2010 July 25
Posted by realpokereducation

Last time I wrote about poker tools that can help you out as you study and learn more about money poker sites. The first tool I suggested was the online poker dictionary, and I explained that it’s difficult to read about poker without knowing the most common and important poker terms. The one problem with my suggestion, though, is that the list of poker terms is so long that you’ll wonder where to start! Because of this, I’ll go ahead and highlight a small number of the poker terms that I consider most important for someone learning on a Full Tilt Poker download or any other poker site download. Memorize these terms first because you’ll come across them often and important points will be missed if you don’t know what they mean.

The terms I think you should learn first and foremost have earlier entries all to themselves, so please make sure you’ve read my previous articles before continuing. ”Bankroll management” and “variance” are, without a doubt, some of the most important terms in poker. When you’re learning to play on your Bwin Poker download, there’s a chance you could endure a lengthy downswing. You could need this bankroll to kick in at any time because it’s impossible to predict when this might happen.

Since poker is all about money, you should quickly learn about the “rake”. The rake is the amount removed from all the pots or prize pools by the host of the poker game. So for example, if you play some no-limit hold em after using a Titanpoker bonus code, each pot will end up around 5% less because Titan Poker will collect it as their payment. Rake is usually different when comparing online sites to brick and mortar casinos, and each hand can be raked up to a maximum amount.

Another term to know about is “position”. Previously we considered the importance of your starting hands in the poker hands order entry, but the importance of position was never brought up. The person last to act post flop in every pot has the best position, and it is easier to win pots when you are in position. You should be more willing to play hands in position and less willing to play hands out of position. When you download free casino games, you don’t have to pay attention to where other people are playing. Because of the concept of position, poker is a different story.

You should look for the term “outs” in a suitable online poker dictionary. If you’re playing in a pot and you feel you don’t have the best hand, figure out which cards could fall on later streets that likely would improve your hand to the best. These are known as your “outs”.

Take note of the term “fold equity”. When you’re trying to win a pot, you should recognize that one way to win pots is to bet and have your opponents fold. This is called fold equity, and it is very useful in poker since it’s a way to win pots without necessarily having the best hand. If you ever watch hands being played in Daniels Room poker, you will learn that high stakes players make use of this concept very often.

When reading online poker articles, the word “nit” will likely appear every so often. A person is a nit if he plays a narrow range of hands preflop and he’s unwilling to gamble. He will rarely put himself in a spot where he is unlikely to be ahead.

One last term that will be good to know when you download free poker is “all-in”. Most common in tournament poker, if you go all-in, you are betting your entire stack and your opponents must call the equivalent of your stack if they want to continue with the hand. If you are called and don’t win the showdown, you are often busto and you are required to re-buy (if the game allows it) or remove yourself form the table.

In the future, I will go through the dictionary and choose more terms to look at. In the meantime, look at these ones and then search for a few strategy articles to study. Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Internet Poker Tools

2010 July 6
Posted by realpokereducation

It’s time to cease our discussion on intangibles like variance and bankroll management. Let’s instead discuss a few internet poker tools that are there for you as you strive to become good at the game on money poker sites. At the beginning, it would be a good idea to check out an online poker dictionary. It’s essential to learn all the key poker terms before you try reading any books or online articles regarding your Full Tilt Poker download. If you don’t know the language, you can’t learn anything very advanced. It’s like trying to play the piano without knowing how to read the music!

The second thing on your list is to select a poker forum in which you can post questions and get quick, free help. Check to see if your site of choice contains info regarding Amex compatible casinos because that is an indication that they are very thorough. I posted on a forum when I first started playing poker and I started improving quickly when I began writing posts and asking for opinions. To ask questions about hand histories on a message board, it would be best to use a hand converter first. Doing so makes it easier to read and then people are more likely to reply to your post.

If you’d like another way to learn very quickly, you should get a few poker videos showing play on top Texas Hold’em sites. There are many expensive and advanced videos on the internet, but I would hold off on those until you’ve played a lot more poker. When you start out playing the game, the numerous free poker videos out online today are more than enough.

And finally, don’t forget about using a poker odds chart as soon as you download free poker. As you already know, the chart will be essential when you’re in a tough spot and you need to figure out whether your hand is any good.

Don’t underestimate the value of these online tools for they help your game exponentially and, for the most part, they are free. Many of the players online don’t know about these tools themselves, so already you have an edge before you even learn anything. Make good use of these handy tools and you could be playing Daniels Room poker in no time!

Variance

2010 June 21
Posted by realpokereducation

Welcome back to my blog! Previously we switched it up and instead of ranges and the poker odds table, we discussed overlooked poker skills. These skills can’t show you the correct moves in tricky preflop spots, but they’ll help you maintain your bankroll and help you become a fully developed player.  We will consider variance, an additional overlooked issue for those that play poker. Like last time, I’m not teaching you about the cards when I tell you about variance. Just like two weeks ago, I would like to display the necessity for discipline and emotional control in this game.

Variance is the sole reason we need to have a large bankroll when playing this game. Because if you’re the best player online, wouldn’t it be pointless to have a bankroll? If you were always a winner on Tiger Gaming, you’d never finish the game on a losing note for as long as you play, correct? If only it were that easy.

Alas, you’ll see that despite how well you play, you will occasionally still have down days when playing poker. At times the poker hands you’re given will be horrible and you won’t want to play any of them. The flip side is that the hands you’re dealt will be great, but of course you still lose money because sometimes the opposition is too lucky for you. It’s a fact that some days you will manage to lose while getting it in as an 85% favorite. Moments like these can make you wish you were playing online slots in place of poker!

To keep from losing your mind during trying times, you should see that variance gives reasons for bad players to continue making deposits on real money poker sites. You need bad players to stick around to make money. As you can’t wish for variance to disappear, you should discover how to overcome it. Do this by practicing correct bankroll management and also avoiding tilt issues. Realize how to accept bad variance and as long as your bankroll can withstand the bad luck, you’ll be back to your usual winning ways in no time. It’s either that or it’s time to download free casino slot games. I know which choice I would make!
