Key Poker Terms 2

A few months ago I wrote about some important poker terms that you should know when you read up on strategy for winning on money poker sites. For the next few months, I would like to go over a few new poker dictionary entries. To make it fun (for myself), I will go in order through the alphabet and explain one dictionary entry for each letter. Let’s go! I hope you are as excited as I am ;)

For my very first word, let’s take a look at the word “ante”. You will want to know about this word for sure if you play tournaments on a PartyPoker bonus code. If there is an ante present, all players must pay a predetermined amount before the cards are dealt. The ante is usually around 10% of the big blind, although the amount varies.

If you have already played a bunch of poker hands, you will probably already know what a “bluff” is. Bluffing means to represent a strong hand (that you don’t actually have) in order to make your opponents fold. If you ever download Full Tilt Poker and watch the high stakes tables, you will probably see some great bluffs being made.

For the letter C, here is a something that many of the best online poker sites watch out for in their security departments: chip dumping. Chip dumping occurs when someone intentionally loses their chips to someone else. People will do this to share chips in a tournament, for example, and it is an excellent way for criminals to launder illegally obtained cash. It should now be clear why US poker sites always have a security team looking out for suspicious betting patterns on the virtual felt.

When you are getting free poker training, you will probably read about “dirty outs” every so often. You have a situation of dirty outs when cards that improve your hand improve an opponent’s hand even more. For instance, imagine you are playing cash games on Tiger Gaming and you have a straight draw on a flop with 2 hearts. If you turn your straight with a card that is a heart, this could be a dirty out since someone may have also made a flush.

I am going to stop here, but I will be back sometime in October. Before the next time we meet, it might be fun to try a Bwin Poker download. Take care!
